A 12-week lead time is required to grow custom SEDUM TILE®. The unique TILE® grown for CCSF included Sedum divergens, Sedum cauticolum, Sedum oreganum, Sedum sexangulare, Sedum spurium 'Fuldaglut', Sedum spurium 'John Creech' as well as California Poppy, Lupine, Beach Grass, and Sand Strawberry.

TILE® for the 20,000 sf green roof was delivered to the jobsite on 3 trucks. Pallets, 32 shipping trays high, were easily staged in the parking area while waiting to be conveyed to the roof.

Each hoist of the crane loaded approximately 265 square feet directly onto the roof. It took approximately 10 hours of crane time to load the plant material.

SEDUM TILE® can be quickly planted as it is unpacked at roof level. Experienced landscape installers on this project planted TILE® over 2" of green roof media and drip irrigation at a rate of 1,000 sf/mh. (Planting only)

The newly planted roof is fully vegetated. It will still take a few weeks for the roots to take hold of the media below, though. Two blends were created to add even more interest.

At 3 weeks post installation, the Sedums are becoming very well established on the roof. Sedum spurium 'Fuldaglut' adds a striking red hue to the 'green roof'.

At 7 weeks post installation, the California natives are really starting to establish themselves. The native perennials will bloom and later die back until next season. The Sedums will continue to provide color year-round.
