Case Study. Snohomish,
Washington
We experienced just how long it
takes to put "The Green in Green Roof" using Etera® SEDUM TILE® on a 600 square foot
section of a demonstration project in Snohomish, WA. The entire
project consists of five roof sections, each having a different
roofing manufacturer and green roof system on it.

When we arrived on site, the green roof build up on the section
we were there to help plant was just being completed by others.
They finished leveling out the 4" of granular growth media that our
SEDUM TILE® was to be installed
over. A 2" depth is the minimum requirement for our TILE®.
Our SEDUM TILE® was conveyed
to the roof using a forklift to raise the racks. We simply unloaded
the TILE onto the roof from there. Had this been a larger project,
we would have shipped the TILE®
using our palletized trays and craned the pallets directly onto the
roof.
The TILE® was easy to handle
and simple to install. Only a little care was needed to be sure
they made good contact with the media below and with each other to
prevent air gaps.
Before long we had finished laying the SEDUM TILE® and were watering in our completed
green roof.
We took a 600 square foot roof from Granular to Green in under
two hours.
Three weeks after installation, the roots have grown through the
coconut coir base and are starting to establish themselves into the
media below.
The colors are constantly changing as some of the blooms are
spent and others are just beginning. The foliage has changed in the
three weeks since installation, also.
At eight weeks post installation, the plants are so established
that they cannot be lifted anymore. Notice more color changes in
blooms and foliage.
The Sedum varieties are all very well established and finding
their niche.
Heading into early fall, Sedum spurium 'Fuldaglut' is showing
off bright reddish-pink blooms, Sedum reflexum 'Blue Spruce' has
yellow blossoms just starting to open, and Sedum rupestre
'Angelina' has orange tips and bright chartreuse autumn
foliage.
